Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register?  There are 3 ways to register for a class:
 
  1. Online Registration:  You can self-register for classes 24/7 at (website name), click on “Sign In” on the left menu bar. If this is your first time registering on this click, click “Create New Student Profile” and build your own account.  Next, click on “Courses” on left menu bar to browse through our online catalog.  When you find a class or classes you want to take, add them to your shopping cart.  When all classes are in your shopping cart, you can complete your registration via our secure web site. 
 
  1. By Phone: Call our office at 662.243.1803. Be sure to have your credit card available and be ready to provide us with the card number and card expiration date.
     
  2. In Person: You may register at The Communiversity, 7003 South Frontage Road, Columbus, MS 39701, Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m., or Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.  If paying with cash, you must register before 4:30 p.m.
 
How will I know if I got into a class?  When you self-register, after completing your credit card payment, you are registered and will receive a class confirmation and transaction receipt via email.  If you register by phone and you include an email address, you will receive an email confirmation and transaction receipt once your registration is processed.  If you do not provide an email address, we do not send a confirmation by mail.  You can confirm your registration by calling 662.243.1803 or by emailing us at workforce@eastms.edu.
 
What is your refund policy? If you cannot attend a class for which you have registered, you must withdraw by notifying EMCC Workforce Services by email at workforce@eastms.edu at least fourteen (14) days prior to the class start date. All refund requests must be in writing. If you paid registration fees at the EMCC Business Office, you may request a Request for Refund form be sent by email.  You may also visit the Communiversity at 7003 South Frontage Road, Columbus, MS, to fill out a Request for Refund form. Upon approval, refunds may take up to 60 days to process. Refunds to credit cards will be processed within 5 business days. There is a $25 service fee for all cancellations within 14 days of the class start date. No refunds will be processed after class begins.

In lieu of a refund, students may opt to have class registration fees transferred to a future or alternative class.
 
When there is low enrollment, are classes cancelled? In most cases, we require at least ten students for a class to run.  You will be notified by email if your class is cancelled.  EMCC reserves the right to cancel classes with insufficient enrollment.  If we have to cancel your class, you can request a full refund or transfer to another course of your choice, space permitting.
 
When is a class cancelled?  EMCC makes every effort to maintain the schedule of courses as announced in our catalog.  However, we reserve the right to cancel courses, change instructors, change rooms, and combine classes when necessary without previous announcement.  EMCC is not bound by printing errors in our publication.
 
Are there any prerequisites for any classes?  Prerequisites are listed in course descriptions.  Some classes, such as medical classes and Commercial Truck Driving, have more detailed prerequisites.  Some courses require another class be completed prior to enrollment. Check course descriptions for prerequisites that may apply. You will also received a confirmation email after you register for class with a list of prerequisites.
 
Are textbooks required for any courses?  Some courses do require textbooks.  In many cases, the textbooks are provided and retained by EMCC Workforce Services.  Some courses require you to purchase a textbook.  See the course description to see if any textbook purchase is required.
 
How do I know if classes are cancelled due to emergency or inclement weather?  ROARCast is East Mississippi Community College’s Emergency Alert System.  When you sign up, you receive alerts in case of an emergency on or around campus or in the event of inclement weather where classes are cancelled for the day.  To sign up, click here and go to New? Sign Up!, enter your information, select the type of alerts you would like to receive and click “Join.”  You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the link. 

Do these classes count toward my Associate's Degree?  No, these are non-credit courses to build your skillset and open employment opportunities. 

Are these classes free? No, each course has a set fee associated with it. Tuition assistance is available for qualifing students.  Giftcards or sponsorships are accepted as well. Call 662-243-1803 to find out more about these options.
 
Can I take a course if I already have a job?  Yes! Many courses are offered as night classes so you don't have to miss work.
