Phlebotomy personnel can collect blood samples for the purposes of research, testing, donations, or
transfusions by using venipuncture, which is the process of making an incision in the vein to draw
blood. A phlebotomist works under the supervision of a medical laboratory scientist. Students will
complete 8 weeks of in-class instruction, then complete 100 clinical hours in a healthcare facility.

Satisfactory completion of background check, Hepatitis B vaccine, TB Skin
test, immunization record, and drug screen.  The TB Skin Test and drug screen must be
dated no earlier than 45 days before the first day of class. All of the above mentioned items are the
responsibility of the student and must be completed before the first day of class.  **All students are
enrolled provisionally, pending completion of medical requirements and a clear criminal
background check.**
